UPDATE: Pair charged with attempted first-degree murder, more in July robbery, police say
PEKIN (25 News Now) - Two people are in the Tazewell County jail, each on a million dollars bond, in connection with a July robbery at a Pekin home.
Pekin Police say a 63-year-old man was found severely beaten after police responded to a robbery report at a residence in the 2300 block of Broadway Road on July 12.
A probable cause affidavit, obtained by 25 News, says the suspects, Gage Burgess, 21, and Savannah McKinley, 18, were identified by the victim 12 days after the incident, when he was discharged from the hospital.
The charging document shows both McKinley and Burgess admitted to beating the victim multiple times with a baseball bat, claiming it was in retaliation for the victim sexually assaulting McKinley.
Burgess allegedly said she left the victim for dead, so he could not identify them to authorities.
Both Burgess and McKinley were charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery by the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Both need $100,000 in order to leave the jail.
The pair will be arraigned on August 25th.
