Hundreds embark for 41st Memphis to Peoria Run
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Hundreds of runners are making their way from Memphis to Peoria for the 41st annual St. Jude Run.
The 465-mile run started with around 20 runners back in 1982, and has raised millions of dollars for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
It’s a relay-style run where different teams take on different parts of the route.
With hot, muggy weather in Memphis when the runners left Wednesday morning, they say teamwork is important.
“We drink a lot of water, hydrate, take care of ourselves and keep an eye out for each other. This is just one big family ... A lot of us have done it for a lot of years, so we know how to handle things,” participant Lee Hall said.
The runners are scheduled to arrive at the Peoria Civic Center for a welcome-home party Saturday evenint - just in time for the St. Jude Telethon.
