A new type of hotel in Normal is all the buzz
NORMAL (WEEK) - It’s called a pollinator hotel and was created to give pollinators like bees a home after losing their habitat.
The tiny hotel was created by the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University and placed in The Refuge Food Forest by Town of Normal.
Kids from the Children’s Discovery museum STEAM camp were going to help fill the hotel, but the event was canceled due to weather.
They still got a chance to learn about pollinators.
“Getting our students and children excited about our local pollinators i think that’s really important especially since if we don’t have the bee population that we need we are not going to have the fruits and vegetables that we love to eat,” Education manager of the Children’s Discovery Museum Rachel Carpenter said.
The hotel was made possible by a sustainability grant from Ameren.
