First Alert Weather Day: Heat and strong storms
Tomorrow and Wednesday
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - We’ve designated First Alert Weather Days through Wednesday for the potential for excessive heat and a few strong or severe storms.
Our weather will remain quiet this evening, but expect chances for showers and storms to increase late tonight and into tomorrow morning. The risk of widespread severe weather will be low, but a few storms may be strong or severe, especially west of the Illinois River.
High winds up to 50-60 mph and heavy rain may be possible at times. Localized flash flooding may also be possible.
Showers and storms will continue into tomorrow morning before tapering off by the afternoon. Once again, a few of these storms tomorrow morning may be strong at times.
Expect a hot and humid day with highs in the low 90s and heat index values near 100 tomorrow afternoon.
Highs will soar into the mid 90s Wednesday afternoon with heat index values as high as 100-105. Showers and storms will be possible as early as Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening as a cold front approaches from the northwest.
Some of these storms may be strong or severe, capable of producing high winds and large hail. Heavy rain may also be possible which could lead to flash flooding.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the latest forecast data and update you with any new information regarding our excessive heat and severe weather chances. Tune in this evening for your full First Alert 10 Day Forecast!
