PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Hundreds packed into the Peoria riverfront to listen to music, eat delicious food, and celebrate Latino heritage.

Saturday evening, Fiesta En El Rio hosted its 2nd annual event to advocate for the culture that brings home to the community. Committee of Fiesta En El Rio, Maria Miranda was excited to bring together the community on a positive note.

“This is our second year here and it actually feels really good because I see the community getting together, happy and ready to have fun,” said Miranda.

Emcee of the event, Alicia Calderon, believes this event advocated for something bigger in Peoria.

“To me the city this is showing me the growth in our economy, shows the growth and diversity that we have in the city. Focus on the good that bringing the community together does,” said Calderon.

This event was family friendly with bags and inflatables. Many vendors sold and shared wellness items, Mexican flags, and health tips.

Attendees were able to get some dance lessons as well and many people wore attire pertaining to the vast culture differences.
