Seasonable Sunday, excessive heat returns next week
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - If you liked today’s forecast, you’ll like tomorrow’s! Overnight lows will fall into the low 60s, so another good night to open up a window and let some cooler, fresh air in. Highs will climb back up to the mid 80s and dew point temperatures will rise a bit as well, that’s why Sunday might feel a little bit muggier. There will be a light breeze from the south, so that should help make conditions still feel pleasant.

This gorgeous weekend weather is just that - only here for the weekend. Heat and humidity build back in all of next week with forecast highs all in the 90s. Wednesday and Thursday are looking like the hottest days with highs in the mid 90s and possibly upper, with feel-like temperatures 100-110.

Monday will be our next best chance for storms as a cold front will push across the region, however the cold air mass behind the front will not usher into the area and the heat will stay. Storms are possible ahead and along the cold front Monday afternoon and early evening. The hot and humid airmass in place Monday will provide plenty of energy for storms to tap into. An isolated storm may become severe with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain as the main threats. As of now, the atmosphere looks to lack rotation, so a tornado threat is not expected at this time. Areas along and south of 74 have the best chances to see a stronger storm Monday.

Next rain chance looks to be Wednesday night into Thursday. This passing cold front may inhibit highs on Thursday, so we’ll keep an eye on that as this week moves forward.
UPDATE: Latest models have shown some shower and storm activity Monday morning, then developing afternoon storms south of our viewing. This favors a fast moving cold front. If the front slows down, that’s when we can see some of those afternoon storms in our viewing area. We will continue to tweak the forecast as needed!
