NORMAL (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Illinois State third-year sophomore Ryan Cermak’s MLB Draft dreams came true Sunday night as he was selected in the second round, 71st overall by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Cermak is the highest drafted player from Illinois State since 2001. He is also the third highest draft pick in program history only behind Neal Cotts, who was selected at 69 by the Athletics in 2001, and Dave Bergman, who was selected at 36 by the Yankees in 1974.

Cermak lead Illinois State in both home runs and RBIs in the 2022 season
