PEORIA (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - Tens of thousands of people ventured to the Peoria Riverfront Monday night to celebrate the return of the Red White and BOOM fireworks show.

After a three-year hiatus, the event came back with a huge boom to the delight of Fourth of July revelers.

“I feel like a kid in a candy store, it’s been a long time,” said Patrice Foster.

Red White and Boom is promoted as Illinois’ biggest fireworks show.

“We’re really looking forward to the fireworks, we heard it’s a great show, and we’re looking forward also to the Air Force coming and doing a fly-by tonight,” said Brian Segielsai.

Segielsai brought along his young son, Dax.

He’s learning what fireworks are all about.

“The fireworks are when they get in the air, they explode, and that’s my favorite part,” said Dax.

There was plenty of police providing security Monday night. Among the officers on patrol was Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria.
