PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - We will need to keep a close eye on our weather over the next few days for periodic storm chances and the potential for excessive heat. Some of these storms may be strong or severe at times.

We have designated First Alert Weather Days through Wednesday because of these concerns.

We have designated today through Wednesday as First Alert Weather Days.
We have designated today through Wednesday as First Alert Weather Days.(First Alert Weather, Heart of Illinois ABC)

This Evening and Tonight:

Showers and storms that we saw earlier this afternoon should continue to move east which will likely lead to some dry time this evening. For now, we’ll hold about a 30% rain chance throughout the rest of the day. If any isolated storms form later this evening they still could become locally strong or severe. However, it looks like we will stay dry this evening which would be great news for any 4th of July celebrations, but our weather is still worth monitoring because of the conditional severe weather risk.

Storms will likely pass near or north of Chicago and then into Indiana overnight, but a few storms may be possible near the I-55 corridor overnight.

It’ll be hot and humid tomorrow with highs in the upper 90s and heat index values as high as 110 to 115. Heat Advisories are in effect tomorrow from noon until 9 PM.

Make sure you are staying cool and hydrated throughout the day tomorrow and limit your time outside!

We may see a few isolated to scattered storms develop tomorrow, especially near and east of the Illinois River. Once again, any storms that form could become strong or severe capable of high winds, large hail and heavy rain.

We’ll see additional storm chances tomorrow night into Wednesday morning as another thunderstorm complex approaches Central Illinois.

Rest of This Week:

As of now, we are only designating First Alert Weather Days through Wednesday because of confidence in any severe weather risk is not high enough yet for Thursday and/or Friday. However, the hot and humid weather will continue through the end of the week along with periodic showers and storms.

We will finally dry out this weekend with highs in the 80s and slightly less muggy conditions. Additional rain chances may be possible once again early next week.

Tune in this evening for your full First Alert 10 Day Forecast!
