Chung to face Preston for state house seat
MCLEAN COUNTY (Heart of Illinois ABC) - A Normal Town Council member will face a McLean County Board member in November’s general election to become state representative in the new 91st District.
Republican voters nominated Scott Preston Tuesday night. He defeated Jim Fisher, a former Unit 5 school board member who declared himself the most conservative candidate in the race.
Preston was first elected to the Normal Town Council in 2013. He’s also a vice chair on the McLean County Republican Central Committee.
Preston will face Sharon Chung, who’s in her first term on the McLean County Board and is a local musician. Chung, receiving the backing of Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, defeated Karla Bailey-Smith.
Bailey-Smith was the Democratic nominee for a state house seat two years ago, but incumbent Republican Keith Sommer defeated her. Sommer is not running for reelection this year.
