Pekin Mayor concedes Illinois House race
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Mayor of Pekin Mark Luft conceded to challenger Travis Weaver following a competitive race for a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Luft released a statement announcing his concession on Facebook.
“It’s been an honor to serve as your state representative,” Luft said. “Unfortunately, we came up short this election cycle... I will continue to serve my community, district, and state.”
Luft will continue to be Mayor of Pekin, but he will lose his statehouse seat.
With his concession, Weaver is the official Republican candidate for the 93rd statehouse district.
“I am honored to represent my home in central Illinois, and I could not be more grateful to the voters who believed in me,” Weaver said in a statement.
“I look forward to working with business owners, farmers, parents, teachers, police, and hard-working citizens who are so ready for positive, conservative reform. I am confident Illinois’ best days are ahead, but only if we all work together and make it so.”
All districts are newly redrawn after population shifts in the 2020 Census. As of right now, there is no Democratic challenger to Weaver for the general election in November.
