PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Dr. Bill Hauter who serves on the Tazewell County Board secured the GOP nomination for the 87th District House of Representatives seat in Tuesday’s Primary Election.

Hauter received 57-percent of the vote to beat Tazewell County Treasurer and long-time county employee Mary Burress. She received 43-percent.

The seat is being vacated by long serving Republican Representative Keith Sommer who is retiring. This district is also significantly different after redistricting than the one Sommer was elected in. It now includes most of Tazewell and all of Logan Counties as well a portions of McLean, Dewitt, Sangamon and Macon.

So far, there is no Democratic candidate for this seat, meaning Hauter sails through the November election and will be the next 87th District State Representative. Democrats have less than a month to slate a candidate and secure the valid signatures necessary to place anyone on the ballot.
