Captain Chris Watkins likely to become next Peoria County Sheriff
PEORIA COUNTY (Heart of Illinois ABC) - It looks like Peoria County has elected its next sheriff. Captain Chris Watkins holds a comfortable the lead with all precincts reporting.
In the final vote totals posted on election night, Captain Chris Watkins is leading by almost 3,000 votes.
In those same results, Lieutenant Jason Buckley has 4,636 votes. Watkins results sit at 7,413 votes.
Watkins says the past 6 months campaigning were great. Now, he’s ready for the challenge.
“As Sheriff I just want people to go to bed feeling safe. I want victims to know that they matter,” said Watkins.
“We have a lot of challenges ahead and I’ve been dealing with those challenges already so really just continuing what I’m doing,” he said.
If there’s no democratic challenger by July 25th, Watkins could be the next Peoria County Sheriff.
There are still outstanding ballots, but Chris Watkins leads the race by more than 60%.
