Peoria High’s Aaliyah Guyton drawing big recruiting interest ahead of junior season
Guard has offers from Illinois, Ohio State, Mississippi State among others
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - ″So far I’ve got offers from Ohio State, Oakland. I got a recent offer last night from Depaul. I’ve got an offer from Mississippi State. I got a re-offer from Bradley and Illinois is the other offer.”
The list of offers for Peoria High junior to be Aaliyah Guyton is getting lengthy. The talented and dynamic Lions guard still has two more years of high school left but she’s already got plenty of college options and is really enjoying the experience
“The recruiting process so far has been going very well,” Guyton said. “It’s definitely a good experience getting calls and being able to talk to coaches now especially because it’s June and they’re able to contact me. It’s definitely good to have those conversations with coaches and get connections with them.”
Perhaps the reason Guyton’s recruitment is starting to blow up is the versatility in her game. She’s a great ball handler and passer. She can shoot it. She can get downhill and attack the basket. She’s a do-everything threat and now her big goal is to put it all together and become a well-rounded player.
“I’m definitely trying to balance it out now,” Guyton said. Not just shooting 3′s and not just attacking all the time. Get a variety of shots, mid ranges, 3′s, floaters, all that so it’s just a balancing act.”
The talent and skillset is there for Guyton but that’ll only get you so far. What makes her special is the kind of relentless hard work she puts in on a daily basis and that’s given her seemingly unlimited potential as she heads into her last two seasons at Peoria High and beyond.
“It’s a blessing to see and it lets a lot of our kids see and understand that when you work super duper hard, that’s what happens. She didn’t wake up one morning and say, hey I want to be a college ball player, she had to work hard to say I wanna be a college ball player and everyone else sees it. The sky is most definitely the limit.”
