One of the Peoria Zoo’s largest animals has a new home
Louise the Burmese python was moved into her new exhibit
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Peoria Zoo’s Burmese python named Louise moved into her new home. According to the zoo’s director Yvonne Strode “The new exhibit gives her more space to explore and a few more amenities.”
Louise can now enjoy her new pool, where people can come eye to eye with the nearly seventeen-foot long reptile. Her new home also has some large concrete areas that will encourage her to explore, as well as heated floors and two basking areas.
Peoria Zoo staff hopes that by putting Louise in her new exhibit, it will change the experience that visitors have with snakes. Yvonne Strode says “The more people can interact with an animal, or they feel they’re interactive, we think the more they appreciate the animal, they appreciate the experience.”
Louise has called the Peoria Zoo home since October of 2016. She’s currently fourteen years old.
According to The International Union for Conservation of Nature, Burmese pythons are currently near threatened.
