Hanna City girl raising money for rodeo with a unicorn
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - A young girl is headed to the big leagues with her extraordinary talents on horseback but she’s asking for the community’s help to get there.
“This kid rides literally every single day, it might not be the same horse but she’s on a horse during the day all the time,” Mother of 6-year-old equestrian Eden Szentes Brooke Szentes said. “We call her a barn rat, she’s been raised in a barn.”
Trained by her mother, In her rookie year, her mother said Eden finished 6th Illinois for all-around cowgirl and she was headed to the Little Britches Rodeo National Competition.
“We never thought that in our first year of competing - we were like let’s just see how she does- and then next thing you know here we are qualified four times for nationals,” Szentes said.
Co-Owner of the Coffee Can, Ron gulley opened his establishment up to Eden and her magical helper to drum up some donations for the $4,000 trip to the national competition in Oklahoma.
“The community helped build, the community helped support and I just love the small-town community,” Gulley said. “The coffee can is giving her a sizable donation”
Hundreds came to see Peach the Unicorn and donated what they could on Tuesday and Wednesday. There were also keychains and jewelry for sale.
Coffee Can also offered a special unicorn drink to bring people out.
The donation can will be at Coffee Can until Thursday and Eden will head out to National’s in Oklahoma on July 1st.
“She works really really hard to get there and I gotta figure out some way to get there,” Szentes said.
