NORMAL (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Full-time faculty at Heartland Community College have a new contract giving pay raises in each of the next three years.

The college’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night on a deal with the Heartland Faculty Association (HFA) giving the instructors a 2 1/2% pay increase the first year, a 3% boost the second year, and a 2 1/2% raise the third year.

Administrators and union negotiators used what they described as Interest Based Bargaining to reach an agreement.

“We feel this helped us identify the best solution that is feasible and acceptable to address the issues at hand when developing this contract,” Rick Pearce, Heartland’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs said in a prepared statement.

The union’s leadership team also released a statement.

“The HFA is committed to offering students quality educational experience, which can best occur when responsible compensation and supportive working conditions are provided for educational professionals; we believe the contract developed collaboratively with board representatives is beneficial to our members and aligns with the goals of the College.”

Heartland’s part-time instructors are covered by a separate collective bargaining agreement.
