First Alert Weather Day: Excessive heat and humidity return

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Tuesday is a First Alert Weather Day as excessive heat and humidity return to the Heart of Illinois.

You’ll need the water bottle along with the sunglasses as you head out this morning. We’ll see plenty of sunshine throughout the day as temperatures quickly climb. Daytime highs will reach the mid to upper 90′s across the region. Factor in increasing humidity throughout the day and triple digit heat index values as high as 105 will be possible.

Heat Advisories have been issued from 1-8 PM for areas west of I-39 due to the excessive heat. Areas further west will not be under Heat Advisory criteria, but it will still be hot with heat index values nearing 100 degrees. Make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day and if you do need to be outdoors, make sure you are giving yourself plenty of breaks.

A cold front will approach from the northwest late this evening bringing the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms. While severe thunderstorms are not expected, a gusty storm cannot be ruled out entirely. Most of these storms look to dissipate before reaching us locally, and most of us look to remain dry into Wednesday morning.
