PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - An all-terrain vehicle crashed late Monday afternoon in a wooded area near Chillicothe, injuring the ATV’s driver.

Authorities said the 18-year old male driver was part of a group of ATV’s traveling together off Ratliff Road when one of the vehicles overturned in a creek off East Ratliff Road, about three miles north of Chillicothe, about 4:45 p.m.

Marvin Roderick, fire chief of the Chillicothe Fire Protection District, says crews went deep into the woods to find the victim. The chief said they used cutters to free him from the wreckage,

The teenager was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. Peoria County Sheriff’s Captain Chris Watkins said the driver’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. His name is not being released.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the crash.
