Dangerous heat and humidity tomorrow
Heat index values as high as 105 likely
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Tomorrow is being designated as a First Alert Weather Day due to excessive heat and humidity.
Heat and Humidity:
Highs will reach the upper 90s tomorrow afternoon with highs index values as high as 105. Heat Advisories have been issued for most of the area ahead of this dangerous heat. These are in effect from 1-8 PM tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Areas east of I-39, including the I-55 corridor, are not under this Heat Advisory. While it will still be hot and humid with heat index values possibly near 100, the best chance for heat index values to reach or exceed 105 will be west of I-39 in the advised area.
Here is a forecast model’s look at what our heat index values might be like tomorrow afternoon.
Late Evening Rain Chances:
A cold front will move through Central Illinois late tomorrow evening into early tomorrow night. This may bring a few showers and storms to the area, but they will be weakening as they move through.
The best chance for any isolated showers and storms will be near and west of the Illinois River. Our severe weather risk is low, but locally heavy rain or gusty winds may be possible at times.
Later This Week:
We’ll remain hot behind the front with highs in the low 90s, but thankfully it won’t be as hot or humid as what we’ll see tomorrow.
Chances for showers and storms will return by the end of the week, but for now those chances look low.
Tune in this evening for your full First Alert 10 Day Forecast!
