(Heart of Illinois ABC) - With beautiful weather Sunday, local families took the time to celebrate their dads outside for Father’s Day.

Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria hosted plenty of families looking to get out and get a round in on the links. For many, activities like these are all about tradition and forming a closer bond with those they’re already close to.

“I think one of the most important things I can do as a dad is spend time with my kids,” says Brimfield resident Mark Bell.

The Father’s Day festivities continued in Mackinaw, where the Mackinaw Valley Vineyard hosted a fishing derby for families to attend. Dozens of dads were treated to a day of wine tasting, fishing, and relaxing in the sun.

Some of the families we spoke with say they’ve made this something they do every year, while others say they were there enjoying it for the first time...

“It’s nice to see my grandsons are inspired to go fishing too, like my daughters did when they were small,” says Hector Arroyo.

“We started this when the kids were young and just kept coming back. It was a great time for us to all spend time as a family and catch some fish,” Todd Mourning told us.

Plenty of families were in attendance at both places, with many saying they plan to return to do the same next year.
