Illini Bluffs softball advances to 1A state title game, Metamora softball wins 3A sectional title

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - Illini Bluffs softball will get the opportunity to defend their Class 1A State Title on Saturday. The Tigers beat Newark 8-3 in a state semifinal on Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship. IB scored runs in five of the seven innings on Friday. They’ll play Casey-Westfield on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for the state title at Louisville Slugger.

In Class 2A, Pontiac’s rally came up just a bit short in their 5-3 semifinal loss to undefeated defending state champion Rockridge. Pontiac will play Illini Prairie foe Tolono Unity for 3rd place in state on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Louisville Slugger.

In baseball, LeRoy lost to North Clay 15-2 in their Class 1A state semifinal. The Panthers will play Ottawa Marquette for 3rd place on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Dozer Park.

In big schools softball, Metamora reigned supreme in a battle of Mid-Illini co-champs in a Class 3A sectional title game on Friday afternoon. The Redbirds beat East Peoria 9-3 to advance to Super-Sectionals and the state Elite Eight where they are set to play Lemont at the East Peoria Super-Sectional on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

In big schools baseball, Washington and Morton are set for another all Mid-Illini sectional title game on Saturday morning at 11 in Washington.
