Illini Bluffs, Pontiac softball and LeRoy baseball win Super-Sectional titles

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - Illini Bluffs softball is headed back to state for the third consecutive season. The Tigers advanced to the State Finals where they will defend their Class 1A State Championship from a season ago with a 12-4 win over Hardin Calhoun. Tinley Beecham had 7 RBI for the Tigers. IB will play Newark in the state semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m. at Louisville Slugger. Newark beat Heyworth 1-0 in the 1A Illinois Wesleyan Super-Sectional on Monday.

In Class 2A, Pontiac is also headed to the State Finals. They beat Lombard Montini 3-0 to win the Olivet Nazarene Super-Sectional. They will play defending state champion Rockridge. The Rockets are undefeated this season and have won 63 straight games. The game will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Louisville Slugger.

In baseball, Brimfield’s terrific season came to an end with a 10-0 loss to Joliet Catholic in the Class 2A Geneseo Super-Sectional. In Class 1A, LeRoy is headed to state after a 2-1 win against Champaign St. Thomas More. Porter Conn hit a walk-off single for the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh inning. LeRoy will play North Clay in the state semifinals Friday at 12 p.m. at Dozer Park in Peoria.
