Highlights from state tournament soccer, softball and baseball

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - For the third time in four years, Peoria Notre Dame and Dunlap met for a soccer sectional title, but for the first time in those three meetings, it was Dunlap coming out on top with a 3-2 win. Senior Sammi Cenek scored all three goals for the Eagles. In Class 3A Normal Community’s season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Edwardsville. In Class 1A, Normal U-High fell 1-0 to Quincy Notre Dame in the state semifinals.

In softball, Illini Bluffs continues their quest for back-to-back state titles. The Tigers beat Havana 11-2. Zoe Eeeten hit two homers for IB. In Class 2A, Tremont put up a valiant effort but fell 2-1 to defending state champion and undefeated Rockridge. In Class 3A, East Peoria won a regional title with a 9-8 win over Normal West while Metamora beat Geneseo 6-2 to claim a regional crown of their own. In Class 4A, Normal Community won their regional semifinal game against Moline 5-4.

In baseball, Brimfield is moving on to the 2A Knoxville Sectional title game after a 10-1 win over Prophetstown. In Class 3A, East Peoria outlasted Lincoln 10-9 in eight innings to advance to the Morton Regional Final.
