PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - First responders say four people were hospitalized, and jaws of life were used to remove two from a car, after an accident Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3:00 p.m., Peoria firefighters and paramedics responded to the 3000 block of North University Street - near Steak ‘N Shake.

Firefighters say upon arrival, they found a vehicle on its side with two people trapped inside. A second vehicle, also with two people inside, was in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Crews stabilized the overturned vehicle and used hydraulic cutters and air chisels to gain access through the roof.

The two people trapped inside were removed and transported to a local hospital.

Firefighters say a separate crew on scene helped two people in the second vehicle, and both of them were also transported to a local hospital.

The condition of the people involved in the accident is currently unknown.
