PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Mid-Illini softball title came down to the final game of the season and that final game did not disappoint. After a terrific pitchers duel, Washington emerged victorious over East Peoria 1-0 in eight innings. Delaney Davis scored the game-winning run on an error from the bat of Carly Vaughn in the 8th inning. The Panthers’ win means they, East Peoria and Metamora all share the Mid-Illini championship.

In baseball, Morton’s Braylan Smith homered twice but it was enough as the Potters fell 10-6 to Normal U-High in their regular season finale. In state tournament action, Roanoke-Benson rolled past Dwight 12-3, Illini Bluffs beat Midland 13-3 and El Paso-Gridley topped Prairie Central 9-5 to advance to regional title games.

Thursday also brought us prelim action from the 1A Girls State Track Meet in Charleston. Henry’s Nakeita Kessling had the top time in the 400 and also had the best flight in the triple jump. Tremont’s Cambria Geyer finished prelims second in the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the 200.
