NORMAL (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Law enforcement officials came from as far as Peoria to help Normal Police ensure everyone had a safe celebration for Leah Marlene’s welcome home on Tuesday evening.
Now, Normal Police are thanking everyone for their help after more than 10,000 adoring fans greeted Leah in Uptown Normal.
Leah, a Normal West graduate, advanced to the Top 3 of American Idol Sunday night, and Normal had just two days to organize the parade, a ceremony with the mayor and a hometown concert.
Normal Police turned to social media to thank all the agencies who helped. They are the Peoria Police Department, the Normal Fire Department, Bloomington Police, Illinois State Police, the McLean County Emergency Management Agency, and the Town of Normal’s Civic Arts staff.
“The assistance of each of these agencies allowed for the Town of Normal - Government to host a secure and entertaining outdoor concert for more than 10,000 community members,” NPD said.
“Further, NPD would like to thank the public for gathering in Uptown Normal and attending this special event. A safe, fun, and enjoyable time was had by all thanks to the cooperation of the community and the assistance of all the listed partners,” the police department also said.
