Highlights from sectional track and state tournament action in soccer and baseball

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - Tickets to next week’s boys state track meet were punched on Wednesday night as sectionals kicked off around the state. At the 2A Metamora meet, Limestone took home a team sectional title. Reece Dusek won the 400 for the Rockets while Sam Morse won the long jump. Wilson Georges dominated the 1600, running a 4:09.47, good for a PR and the Limestone school record. He was also a part of the Rockets’ winning team in the 4x400 relay, a win that secured Limestone’s sectional win by one point over Morton. Other winners on the day included IVC’s David Russell in the shot put (he also finished second in the discus), IVC’s Nolin Hullet in the 110 hurdles and Richwoods’ Skylar Giles in the 100 and 200.

At the 1A Tremont sectional, it was a big day for El Paso-Gridley. Logan Elder swept the hurdles for the Titans while they also took home wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays on their way to a team championship. Peoria Christian’s Adam Pepper won the 100 and 200.

In soccer, Bloomington Central Catholic advanced to the Class 1A Warrensburg-Latham sectional title game with a 6-0 win over Decatur St. Teresa. The Saints will meet Normal U-High for a sectional title on Friday. In Class 2A, Dunlap stormed past Galesburg 7-0. In Class 3A, Normal Community blanked Decatur Eisenhower also by a score of 7-0.

In baseball, Tremont had a dominant win to open regional play with a 16-1 victory over Tri-Valley. Eureka also won by 15 with a 15-0 win over Dee-Mack. Brimfield won their regional opener in a 6-1 win against Farmington. At the 1A Princeville regional, top-seeded Peoria Christian lost to ROWVA/Williamsfield 4-2.

In regular season baseball, Washington finished Mid-Illini play a perfect 14-0 with a 9-1 win over East Peoria. Morton finished second in the conference with a 9-3 victory against Dunlap on senior night.
