Quiet Monday followed by increasing rain chances
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Grab the sunglasses this morning as sunny skies will dominate Monday’s forecast!
Our work week will begin with quiet conditions as high pressure builds. Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than our seasonal average of 74, with most of the region reaching the mid to upper 70′s this afternoon. Winds may be a bit breezy at times, with west northwesterly winds up to 25 miles per hour.
Our rain chances will begin to increase as we head into the second half of the work week. Scattered showers and a few storms will return by Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. The main focus in the extended forecast will be the chance for strong to severe storms possible Friday into Saturday morning.
The Next Big Thing: Friday’s storm system will be our Next Big Thing in the forecast. Exact timing remains unclear, but a strong cold front will drive storms from the west into the region Friday evening/night. Large hail and strong winds will be our primary threats as of current data, but a few isolated tornadoes will be possible.
Make sure to tune in this morning for the full 10 Day Forecast!
