PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - An East Peoria Police Officer nearly killed in a December crash is walking again. Officer Karson Klyber was in his patrol car conducting a traffic stop when he was hit from behind by an alleged drunk driver.

A crowd of supporters, law enforcement, and city leaders gathered at the Fire Department and Police Station today. The City of East Peoria held a memorial service to remember fallen officers.

Officer Klyber carried a flag while presenting the colors at the beginning of that ceremony.

“I’m kind of beating all the odds right now. So, they don’t really know what’s going to happen here in another five months. But, they’re really shocked at where I’m at right now. So I’m just going to keep going and doing rehab and doing workouts on my own,” explained Klyber.
