Highlights from girls track sectionals, softball and soccer

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - More tickets to next week’s state track meets were punched on Thursday night. At the 3A Danville Sectional, Pekin’s Emma Grashoff soared to a win in the high jump while Bloomington’s Makaya Phillips took home the win in the long jump. Normal Community sophomore sensation Ali Ince turned in another dominant performance winning the 400, 800 and 1600 and anchoring the Iron’s win in the 4x400 relay as she looks to add to her impressive career next week.

At the 1A El Paso-Gridley Sectional, Henry’s Nakeita Kessling put together a great day. She ran her way to wins in the 100 and 400 while also winning the long jump title. Tremont’s Cambria Geyer was also a three-event winner. She swept the hurdles with wins in the 100 and 300 while also taking home the win in the 200. Eureka had a dominant day as a team. The Hornets swept all four relays with Laurel Munson providing the anchor leg in the 3 of the 4 wins. Anna Perry won three events taking home wins in the 800, 1600 and 3200 as the Hornets won the team title.

In softball, Metamora nd East Peoria stay tied atop the Mid-Illini standings. The Redbirds beat Pekin 8-5 while the Raiders blanked Morton 10-0.

In soccer, Washington and Normal Community battled to a 1-1 draw while Morton fell to Mahomet-Seymour 3-1.
