(Heart of Illinois ABC) - We have our first state finalists of the spring sports season after girls track sectionals kicked off on Wednesday. At the 2A Dunlap Sectional, Normal U-High was the team champ behind a number of great performances including Delaney Fitzgerald winning the 3200 and 1600, Anna Barr winning the 300 hurdles and Rachel Ogunleye winning the 400. Peoria Richwoods finished 2nd behind great performances from the Jackson sisters. Freshman Lena Jackson won the 100, 200 and anchored the Knights’ 4x100 win while junior Mia Jackson won the 100 hurdles. Morton was third as Paige Chapin won both the shot put and discus.

At the 1A Bloomington Central Catholic sectional, Tri-Valley finished second as a team as Laney Nelson won the triple jump. Bloomington Central Catholic was third as a team with Nora Brady winning the 1600 and 3200 for the Saints.

In baseball, Washington clinched an outright Mid-Illini title with a 5-4 win over Metamora. Meanwhile, Morton beat Limestone 16-0. Beau Durbin had 4 RBI for the Potters.

In softball, Olympia won a thriller over Normal Community 11-9 in eight innings.

In lacrosse, the Washington boys stayed unbeaten on the season with a dominant 14-1 win over Bloomington-Normal. The BloNo girls exacted revenge with an 11-10 win over Washington.
