UPDATE: Cause of death released for man found in Peoria alleyway Monday morning

UPDATE 3:30 P.M. - The man found down in an alley early Monday morning was shot.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says an autopsy on the man, Michael A. Jones Jr., of North Gentry Lane in West Peoria, demonstrates he suffered a single gunshot to his upper body and likely died instantly.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene at 4:06 a.m.

His death is being investigated as a homicide.

This is the eighth homicide of 2022 in Peoria.

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Peoria Police are investigating the discovery of a man down in an alley early Monday morning.

Peoria Police spokesperson Semone Roth says an officer was flagged down at around 2:50 a.m. and discovered an unresponsive man in the alley of 1000 E. Behrends.

Roth says the man had obvious signs of trauma and that life-saving measures were performed, but the man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The cause and manner of death will be released later by the Peoria County Coroner.

Officers with PPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating this case.
