PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - With 36 veterans falling victim to Covid-19 at the state-run home in La Salle, a state audit blames IDPH leaders for reacting too slowly in late 2020.

Republicans are lining up to blame the governor.

That report was released Thursday by Auditor General, Frank Mautino, finding that public health leaders offered no help or virus testing and that other action in La Salle was sluggish in November, 2020.

The Governor has pointed at Republicans for failing to support face masking for the spread of the virus.

Friday in Springfield, the GOP fired back, including Pekin’s House member Mark Luft, who served in the Army Reserves.

“We will never be able to full repay them for what they have done but it is our duty to try, to ensure that in their final years they are cared for. The Governor can try to spin this any way he wants but, ultimately, he owns this failure,” Luft said, as Representative of the 91st District.

One of the recurring themes referenced by all four Republican men was their belief that Governor Pritzker displayed ”fatal mismanagement”.
