On and off rain likely through Friday

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - After a brief break from any rain Wednesday, active conditions will return for the end of the work week.

A system currently positioned in the southern Great Plains for steadily move to the northeast bringing on and off showers over the next 48 hours. The greatest chances for widespread rain will run this morning and late tonight into Friday morning. While these periods carry the greatest chance for rain, scattered showers will still be possible this afternoon and through Friday’s forecast.

Periods of heavy rainfall and an isolated rumble of thunder or two are possible. Rainfall totals ranging from 1-2″ is possible over the next 48 hours is possible area wide. This could lead to some localized flooding, especially with recent heavy rainfall. Pay close attention to water on roadways, especially by Friday afternoon if you live in a flood-prone area.

Once this system exits, we’ll enjoy plenty of dry-time for Mother’s Day Weekend into next week. Our Next Big Thing in the forecast will be a big warm-up which will arrive next week. Daytime highs look to reach the mid to upper 80′s through much of the week.
