ROANOKE, VA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The celebration will have to wait at least one more day for the Peoria Rivermen. The Rivs couldn’t quite come up with the three-game sweep of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs on Monday night, falling 4-3 in Game 3 of the SPHL Finals in Roanoke.

Captain and Dunlap native Alec Hagaman scored the opening goal of the game in the second period before Roanoke rattled off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Rivermen rallied to tie it but a 3rd period goal from Brant Sherwood gave the Dawgs the 4-3 win.

The Rivermen can still win the President’s Cup on Tuesday with a win in Game 4. If Roanoke ties the series, though, the Rivs will return home Thursday for an if-necessary Game 5.
