Chances of rain next couple days, and severe storms possible Saturday
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - It is a mostly cloudy and chilly start this Thursday morning with temperatures in the mid 40s. Highs will climb into the low 60s, so still below average. Throughout the day, expect some isolated shower here and there.
Otherwise, better chances for rain arrive Friday in the late morning hours with some scattered showers likely through the afternoon and evening. Highs will be below average again Friday in the low 60s. We have a warm up as we head into the weekend, as highs will climb into the low 70s; however, the warmer weather will come with showers and storms.
There is potential for storms to be strong to severe in the afternoon and evening Saturday. The strength of these storms will likely depend on how long the initial morning wave of showers lingers on. If we are able to see some clearing of skies so the atmosphere can heat up, then strong to severe storms are likely to develop in the afternoon. All threat look to be possible given development: damaging winds up or above 60 mph, large hail up to an inch, a few tornadoes possible, and localized flooding. Be sure to watch Heart of Illinois tonight at 5 and 5:30 for the latest on this forecast from Chief Meteorologist Brian Walder.
