Showers and storms likely this morning
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Active conditions return through Friday morning ahead of a warm afternoon.
Showers and storms will continue this morning as a warm front lifts north through the region. Localized downpours will be possible through the morning as these storms pass, but no severe weather is expected with these storms.
As the warm front lifts, dry and warmer weather will quickly set in. This will allow daytime highs to reach the mid to upper 70′s. The afternoon looks to remain dry under a capped environment, but if the cap were to break, we could see a few pop-up storms. Any storm that were to form during the afternoon could become strong or severe due to some of the ingredients that will be present in the atmosphere this afternoon. Our primary focus would be an isolated tornado that could be possible, but it looks unlikely.
Our weekend will bring the warmest temperatures of the year so far on Saturday. Daytime highs will reach the lower 80′s, but conditions will be gusty, with winds up to 40 miles per hour. A cold front will pass early Sunday morning, bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Highs will still be comfortable despite Sunday’s rain, with temperatures topping out on either side of the 70 degree mark.
