Highlights from baseball, softball, soccer | College signings at Morton
(Heart of Illinois ABC) - A windy day on Thursday brought us plenty of highlights in high school sports. In baseball, Washington moved to 4-0 in the Mid-Illini with an 11-1 win over Dunlap. Metamora also remained unbeaten in conference with a victory over Canton. In the Big 12, Peoria Richwoods beat Normal Community 4-3 to earn a split with the Ironmen. In the Illini Prairie, IVC beat Olympia 1-0 in a pitchers duel.
It was also a pitchers duel in the IVC-Olympia softball matchup. IVC’s Katie Petran struck out 15 while Olympia’s Danika Frazier struck out 14 as the Spartans beat the Grey Ghosts 2-1. In the Mid-Illini, East Peoria’s Emily Compton tossed her second straight no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Dunlap. In Big 12 action, Normal Community beat Bloomington 3-2 and Normal West beat Richwoods 15-0.
In soccer, Normal West beat Normal U-High 2-0 to win the Intercity Soccer Tournament.
It was also a big signing day at Morton as two Potters stars signed their college letters. Football all-stater Seth Glatz signed his letter of intent to play Division I football at Western Illinois. His good buddy, Thomas Krueger, signed to play baseball at Lincoln Land.
