Chiefs drop season opener to Great Lakes 15-2
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Peoria Chiefs just never quite found their groove on Tuesday night as they dropped their home opener 15-2 to the Great Lakes Loons.
Peoria fell behind 5-0 early but looked to rally in the second when Thomas Francisco smashed a single to right field to bring home Carlos Soto for the first Chiefs run at Dozer Park in 2022.
That was as close as Peoria would get though as the Loons scored 10 runs in the final seven innings en route to a series-opening win.
The Chiefs now look to regroup ahead of the second game of the series which is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday night.
