UPDATE: Child’s death ruled a homicide; Peoria’s 6th in 2022
UPDATE 4:56 P.M. - Peoria Public Schools spokesperson Thomas Bruch says Navin Jones was not enrolled as a student this school year or last school year.
UPDATE 2:34 P.M. - Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the cause of death of the Peoria 8-year-old is physical abuse due to neglect caused by another person.
He is also ruling the death a homicide - Peoria’s sixth of 2022.
Harwood says the boy is 8-year-oid Navin Jones.
Harwood is telling Heart of Illinois ABC it is one of the worse cases of abuse he has seen.
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Peoria Police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old.
A police department release says officers were called to the 1700 block of North gale Tuesday, March 29 at around 2:43 p.m. and found a child unresponsive and not breathing.
The child was transported to OSF in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.
The cause and manner of death will be released later by the coroner’s office.
Members of the Peoria Fire Department and AMT performed life-saving measures on the child.
