Bradley University hosts body positive fashion show at Northwoods Mall
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Northwoods Mall turned into New York Fashion Week Saturday as Bradley University hosted a diversity and inclusion fashion show.
The Body project, a body positive student group at Bradley, put on ‘The Real Me Fashion Show’.
25 models, which included 20 Bradley students, three professors, and two employees at Northwood Mall walked the runway wearing clothes from retailers in the mall like Aeropostale, Hot Topic, Express and more.
Clara Lawson, a junior at Bradley and organizer of the event, said the goal of the fashion show was to showcase people who aren’t represented in the fashion industry.
“Unfortunately in the fashion industry, there is racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism,” Lawson said.
“What we wanted to do today was just represent a beautiful, diverse array of people,” Lawson added.
Lawson said she hopes to continue doing more fashion shows at the mall in the future.
In the mean time, Lawson said The Body Project is doing a ‘NEDA’ walk April 2 to raise awareness for National Eating Disorders Awareness on Bradley’s campus.
