Accumulating snowfall likely this evening
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Hopefully you were able to take advantage some of the sunshine and mild conditions the last few days. Accumulating snowfall is likely across the region over the next 24 to 36 hours.
Winter Weather Advisories will go into effect at 3 PM this afternoon through 6 AM as snow passes through the region.
This morning will be breezy and cold with temperatures in the mid to lower 20′s. Clouds will overspread the region as our next system approaches. The first half of the workday will be dry, as snow chances look to build during the afternoon and evening.
Snow will build from our westernmost counties to the east. Light snow will be possible during the evening drive home for most, especially west of the Illinois River. Snow will gradually build for Thursday night through Friday morning before snow comes to an end by mid Friday morning.
Accumulating snowfall is likely across the entire region, with 1-3″ of snow possible. While this will not be our most significant snowfall of winter, it will still be enough to create hazardous travel for some.
Expect slick roadways late Thursday and especially for Friday mornings drive. Plan to give yourself a bit of extra time for any travel. Frigid conditions will set in behind this system, with sub-zero wind chills expected Saturday morning.
