TOULON (Heart of Illinois ABC) - A man from Toulon has been arrested after a months-long investigation regarding the possession of child pornography.

Jason R. Musselman, 34, is a city alderman in the second ward according to the Toulon city website. The Toulon Police chief confirmed the arrest Wednesday night.

Musselman was arrested for the possession of child pornography and taken to the Stark County Jail. A search warrant was executed Wednesday, January 19 at around 8:30 a.m. according to a release from the Illinois State Police.

In addition to serving on city council, Musselman serves on the volunteer fire department, used to be the Stark County ESDA Director and formerly published the county newspaper.

“I can’t imagine Jason would be in trouble,” Tom Leezer from Toulon said. “Like I say, top notch kid... I can’t imagine he’s done anything...”

However, multiple sources tell Heart of Illinois ABC this isn’t Musselman’s first questionable conduct and that some warning signs date back to high school.

His initial court appearance is set for Friday, January 21.

ISP DCI Zone 4 Peoria Major Crimes, ISP Patrol District 08, and a Washington Police Department Task Force Officer from Homeland Security Investigations participated in the execution of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) search warrant.

Anyone with information about this investigation is urged to contact ISP Zone 4 at (309) 693-5015. Anonymous tips of child pornography can also be reported through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) cyber tip line at www.cybertipline.com.
