Pekin’s mayor seeks a second term as state representative
PEKIN (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - Pekin Mayor Mark Luft said he’s a candidate for a second term as state representative, but he’s undecided whether he’ll run again for mayor.
Luft announced Wednesday he’s running as a Republican in the newly-drawn 93rd Illinois House District. Luft was first elected to the House two years ago.
The new 93rd District covers all or parts of Peoria, Tazewell, Fulton, Henry, Knox, and Stark Counties.
“The more people that I can reach out and help, the better,” Luft told Heart of Illinois ABC.
“I love to end the day knowing that I got somebody to a better place, or a group to a better place, or a community or the district moving forward,” he said.
“So, it’s a very rewarding place to be in,” Luft said.
He said is priorities are growing the local economy, protecting parents’ rights, cleaning up corruption, and supporting law enforcement officers.
Luft said he’s undecided about seeking another term as Pekin’s mayor. The next mayoral election is 2023.
