Peoria grocery deliver driver reunited with missing wedding ring
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - After almost two weeks of searching for her wedding ring, a Peoria woman says it ended up in someone else’s grocery bags. She was delivering groceries when it slipped off. Now, she’s hoping others pay it forward, like the woman who returned her ring.
“I was like, ‘My dang ring is gone!’ And I freaked out,” said Michelle May, who lost her wedding ring at the beginning of January.
After delivering groceries for the day, May looked down and noticed her wedding ring was gone.
“It was a very busy day. It was one order after the other,” said May.
So, May said she drove quickly back to all those homes she just delivered food to and hoped it was there.
“I went to every Walmart I went to that day and asked if anybody turned it in, called for days and nothing. I just figured it was gone,” said May.
She still couldn’t find it. Then, May turned to social media and hoped it would help.
“The one post, a lady shared it and it got shared like 200 times from her page,” said May.
Over a week later, and no ring, May said she gave up. Then a few days later, an employee came up to her when she went to pick up deliveries again at Walmart.
“He said, ‘Did you lose a ring?’ I jumped out of the vehicle and I said, ‘What I lost a ring?’ And he said, ‘This lady found it,’” said May.
Although, the West Peoria woman that returned the ring wants to remain anonymous, May said it is inspiring her to do more for others.
“We got like $20 in the bank, I said, ‘I really want to do something for this lady like right now,’” said May.
And that’s exactly what May did. She bought that woman a small gift with a card to say thank you.
“It felt good to thank her,” May continued, “For somebody else to do something like that for me, a stranger, that is what makes it the best.”
May hopes others will go out of their way, even for a stranger.
“I’ve worn this ring every day right her for the past 11 years,” said May.
And she hopes the ring will stay on her finger for another 11 years and beyond.
