High School Hoops 1-15

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - Saturday’s high school hoops featured some tournament play and also some of the premier teams in the Heart of Illinois facing off against each other.

In boys basketball, starting with the Morton Shootout, Washington beat Peoria Notre Dame 44-38, Pekin takes down Champaign Central 39-31, but host Morton fell to Champaign Centennial 59-53 despite 14 points from both Gus Rugaard and Beau Durbin.

In the ICAC Tournament finale, Peoria Christian beat Illini Bluffs 60-51 behind 17 points and 10 rebounds from West Hunt plus 17 points and 7 assists for Malachi Persinger and 14 for Gavin Johnson

In the 110th Annual McLean County Tournament, Fieldcrest beat Dee-Mack 48-29, while Tremont defeated GCMS 53-48 behind JT Kiser 28 points. Also in McLean County on Saturday, Bloomington Central Catholic hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament and took down Farmington 51-48.

In girls hoops, there was a Class 3A top 5 showdown with No. 5 Peoria High picking up a big 41-32 win over No. 2 Morton behind 23 points from Aaliyah Guyton. Washington beat Limestone 52-34 behind 24 points from Carly Vaughn and 11 from Claire McDougall. Metamora won big over East Peoria 75-18, and No. 8 Normal Community took down Granite City 62-31.
