PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - An East Peoria Police Officer, hurt on the job, got a special escort Friday to a Chicago rehab facility.

16 agencies were at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria Friday morning for Officer Karson Klyber.

He was hit by a suspected drunk driver while assisting with an accident on Interstate 74 in late December.

According to a GoFundMe page, Officer Klyber was unable to feel anything below his waist after the accident.

He’s been at OSF for 15 days.

Two of his colleagues escorted him to Chicago.

“He’s in very good spirits, all of us tried to get up there when we can. We can only go one at a time...all of us have tried to get up there and show our support and let him know we are there for him,” said Robert Bester, detective with the East Peoria Police Department.

The accused driver, 29-year-old Ashley List, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and other charges.

She’ll be in court January 26th.
