Peoria Journal Star to cease newspaper delivery on Saturdays
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Heart of Illinois won’t see the physical newspaper on their doorsteps each Saturday from the Peoria Journal Star soon, with an announcement Thursday.
The paper posting the article on their website, citing rapid shifts toward digital news consumption for the change. Starting on March 19th, delivery will be in service Sunday through Friday.
Instead, subscribers can access the Saturday edition, and any other day, online. All print subscribers of the PJSTAR have full digital access.
Also stated, staffing and other delivery times are not expected to be impacted by the change.
Jenise Rebholz asked leaders with the paper whether delivery or budget issues led to the decision, they did not offer an answer.
Instead, offering this statement from Gannet Spokesperson Lark-Marie Anton, “The Peoria Journal Star, the leading source of news and information in the Peoria area, will transition from delivering Saturday editions in print to providing subscribers with access to our full Saturday e-Editions and unlimited access to our digital platforms.
We will continue to engage readers 24/7 with trusted journalism across multiple platforms including breaking news, in-depth reporting, and award-winning multimedia to meet the increased demand for digital content. This decision better aligns our resources to maintain our strong local reporting, for the benefit of our subscribers and advertisers. We recognize and appreciate the deep loyalty our longtime subscribers have to our newspaper and are committed to delivering a quality product.”
