Rejoicing during times of heartbreak after church fire
MCLEAN COUNTY (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - A church in Normal is coming to the aid of another congregation facing the daunting task of rebuilding after a fire severely damaged its place of worship in rural Bloomington.
The faithful gathered for a unity service Tuesday night at Journey Church on East College Avenue in Normal, welcoming congregants from fire-damaged Victory Church on Route 150 in rural Bloomington.
Journey’s pastor, Jason Damkoehler, said opening Journey’s doors is exactly what Victory’s pastor, Ed Herald, would do.
“He has been here for Journey Church many times in our past,” said Damkoehler.
“So to be here for Pastor Ed and his congregation tonight is payback times a thousand.”
Victory Church has a congregation of about 350 people. Its pastor says worship services and programs will go on somewhere this weekend.
